In light of watching various brave women get up and speak for the very first time (and kill it!) at Moms on the Mic on Thursday, I feel inspired to do something for the first time as well:
Share today’s newsletter from a MIC!
In the following ditty, I’ll share six surprising takeaways from last week’s event, such as bigger isn’t always better, for once I’m not burnt out, not one new person signed up from the CBS thing, and so much more.
(Psst! I cuss a ‘lil bit in the last three minutes, so if you’ve got littles in the room or that ain’t your cuppa tea, do whatcha gotta do after 16:10.)
Ready…spaghetti…GO!
So, whether you watched the video or not, here’s what I’m basically trying to say:
Things aren’t always what they seem.
More attendees doesn’t always equate to more success.
Zero replies, new signups, or profit does NOT mean zero impact.
Just because that speaker seems confident, doesn’t mean they aren’t shaking in their boots. It doesn’t mean you can’t do it, too.
And this wasn’t clearly conveyed in the video, but it just might be the most important piece of this whole letter:
You are needed. You belong.
In yesterday’s post-event call, one of the women said that even though she was given an opportunity to attend Moms on the Mic, she couldn’t bring herself to go. She felt afraid and like she had nothing in common with anyone’s paths — especially that of being a mom. She’s in a rough patch and felt intimidated about the idea of “networking.”
But thank goodness she decided to join the convo and see what this was really all about.
“You’re all on different paths, but you have all come together and have found a way to connect,” she said. “I didn’t feel like I had anything in common, necessarily on paper, but the spirit of this call just feels so amazing, and I’d love to connect again.“
Yes. Yes. YESSSS!
Because she decided to give the invite a second chance…
Because she decided to move past her fear and show up…
She was able to see that things weren’t what they seemed.
She was able to see that, YES:
We deserve a seat at the table / a place in the room / a contribution to the convo / a chance on the mic / a place to be who we’re truly meant to be.
All that said, I feel even more passionate about a new storytelling event concept I’ll be trying this year. Stay tuned on that!
In the meantime…
No matter where you live…
No matter what your life roles are…
If you have a heart and a soul and a desire to connect with others on a deeper level, you’re invited to join the convo in Mics + Mallows.
Let this private, free Facebook group be an ongoing, digital campfire. Let it be a space to dream, share, listen, tell our stories, use our voices with intention, and wrap our virtual arms around each other while we roast digital marshmallows.
Until next time,
P.S.
and I are hosting an introductory workshop to learn how to use writing to heal and build connection. If you have a story inside you wanting to be told, but feel unsure of where to start or how to craft it, then this is for you.It takes place Tuesday, November 19, 9-11am, at Mint & Serif in Lakewood, Colorado. Cost is $30. Coffee and light snacks will be provided. It's limited to 8 participants, so if you're in for this, I suggest signing up soon!
If you’re not in Colorado but would dig a virtual version, reply and let me know!

I'm inspired by your lively powerful pitch!
Wow, love your vulnerability in owning where you wanted to start over and keeping going away in your video—what a metaphor that is for so much in life! And I’m right there with you grappling with what success looks like and what “no’s” or “yes’s” to our work are about (and not about). Once again, we’re on the same wavelength :). Sorry I couldn’t make it to this, but thanks for taking us with you in your reflections! 🎊🎉👏
